Stair Lifts - FAQ’s

Q: Where can I get advice as to which stairlift to buy, or whether a stairlift is right for me?
A: Test Valley Mobility offer independent advice or the occupational therapy department of your local social services, or disability living centres will be able to help you.

Q: Can I buy a reconditioned stairlift?
A: Reconditioned stairlifts are of limited availability; please contact Test Valley Mobility for further information

Q: I have narrow stairs will a Stairlift fit?
A: With our independent status we have a range of lifts with slim rails and compact carriages, along with folding arms, seat and footrest, When folded away they leave plenty of room for other stair users. You can arrange to see a Stairlift at our premises or at any of the exhibitions we are attending.

Q: Can a stairlift go round corners and double bends?
A: Yes. The Stannah range is the most versatile stairlift for narrow, curved stairs. Its design enables it to travel around bends on either side of the staircase and negotiate intermediate landings and corridors with ease.

Q: Are stairlifts noisy?
A: Most Stairlifts produced are not noisy at all. The stairlift has a battery-powered motor that ensures a quiet, smooth ride. You can test-ride a stairlift at our Premises or at any of the exhibitions we are attending.

Q: What happens if there is a power cut?
A: Some Stairlifts are battery powered and will continue to work even in a power cut. A fully charged battery will complete approximately ten journeys on an average staircase.

Q: What quality and safety standards do the stairlifts conform to?
A: All of Test Valley Mobility’s are fully approved to British Standard 5776 for safety. This gives us the confidence to offer a full 12 Month guarantee with every stairlift including reconditioned models.

Q: Can I rent a stairlift?
A: For some customers, and in certain circumstances, renting a stairlift rather than making an outright purchase is a more appropriate solution. Test Valley Mobility does have stairlifts available to rent, which are for straight stairs only. Since these rental stairlifts are usually previously owned models, your choice of colour may be limited

Q: Do you buy back stairlifts?
A: Yes - As long as Test Valley Mobility has regularly maintained the stairlift and if it’s within a reasonable time after the installation then we purchase them back.
